Usher in the new year with an icy cold pitcher of this sweet and zesty summertime Sangria.

Sangria blanca

Prep time: 15 mins
Makes: 2L

¼ cup caster sugar
¼ cup brandy
¼ cup orange liqueur, such as Cointreau
½ orange, sliced into thin rounds
¼ pineapple, thinly sliced, cut into small wedges
½ green apple, thinly sliced
2 x 750ml bottles pinot grigio or sauvignon blanc, chilled
4 cups ice cubes, to serve

Notes: To make the sangria a little less potent (yet still irresistible), use just one bottle of wine instead of two and add a bottle of sparkling apple juice.

1. Put a large glass serving jug or punchbowl in the fridge to chill.

2. Meanwhile, put sugar, brandy and orange liqueur in a small bowl and stir until sugar has dissolved.

3. Put orange, pineapple and apple in prepared jug. Add brandy mixture and wine.

4. Add ice to sangria and serve immediately.
