Bright Ideas To Style Your Christmas Tabletop
Don’t let your tastebuds have all the pleasure at Christmas lunch. Treat yourself – and your guests – to a stunning display of eye candy with a festive tabletop that’ll steal the show. Here in our latest Christmas video, our resident stylist reveals her top tips for transforming your festive table with two of Domayne’s latest trends.
Feeling inspired to dish up a festive tabletop for your guests to feast their eyes upon? Try these simple yet creative ideas:
The Height of Fashion
Take your Christmas centrepiece to the next level, and make the most of available table space, with statement pieces that bring height to your setting. Display a pretty cake stand topped with a sumptuous feathered wreath or fill a tiered cupcake stand with sparkling baubles. If you have limited room to work with, opt for a selection of candlesticks or vases with narrow bases. Avoid creating a towering centrepiece that will obscure your guests’ visibility across the table, as this will disrupt the flow of conversation.
Natural Beauty
Add a touch of nature to your Christmas table with a fragrant bunch of freshly-cut flowers or herbs displayed in a whimsical assortment of jars or even a pretty teapot, plant pot or watering can. Let your creative side shine with a unique arrangement of your favourite foliage. Think outside the square and team succulents and palms with driftwood – or spray some branches in a colour that suits your theme, adorn with sparkling tree decorations and display in a glass vase.
Practically Perfect
Household items make beautiful additions to your centrepiece. Be resourceful and make use of existing pieces that you may not have previously considered worthy of putting ‘on show’. Scour the home for vessels which can be filled with all manner of treasures. Think glass jars and bottles, decanters, canisters, ice buckets, china teacups and teapots, jelly moulds, ceramic jugs, beakers and apothecary jars. Another great tip is to use premium wrapping paper as a table runner. Practical, versatile and easy on the budget, gift wrap can be changed around to suit your colour palette and decorating theme with little effort – plus it provides a sleek, flat surface on which to exhibit your table setting. Too easy.
See the Light
If your festivities are a dinner affair, light the night with an assortment of twinkling candles. Surround a few candle holders, of varying heights, with a circle of stylish votives – to enhance the effect, place a mirror underneath the candles and the dancing flames will make a dazzling reflection. Another simple-but-breathtaking option is to nestle strings of lights in hurricane lamps, wreaths, round glass bowls or even empty wine bottles.

Sweet Gestures
Treat guests by adding an edible element to your centrepiece. Add a delicious sparkle to glass-lidded candy jars and heavy crystal bowls by filling them to the brim with foil-wrapped chocolates and lollies. If you’re a culinary creative, construct a tasty Christmas tree, house or angel from gingerbread, pile cake plates high with colourful macarons or let a spectacular croquembouche – swathed in sticky toffee swirls – take centre stage. Before your guests leave, fill mini stockings, gift boxes or cute kraft paper bags with the sweets as a thoughtful take-home gift. Yum!
Tutti Frutti
If lollies aren’t to your taste, bring colour, texture and character to your Christmas table with a mouth-watering (and inexpensive) display of fresh fruit. Go for a traditional colour scheme with a huge bowl or vase filled with polished red and green apples or add a citrus burst with a tall cylindrical vase stuffed with cut limes, lemons and oranges. Dress up a pristine white platter with a luscious mix of fruits or fashion a sumptuous garland with an assortment of juicy berries and sprinkle with edible gold dust to really wow the crowd. Not only will your fruity feature make a fabulous statement piece, once dinner is done and dusted, you can enjoy the fruits of your labour!
